Why is Disney's Garden Grill an excellent Family Style dinner with Characters?

Updated: Dec 8, 2020

The Garden Grill offers a fantastic Character Dining Location due to its relatively small size compared to other Disney Character Dining Locations. Additionally, this family-style dining location offers all-you-can-eat, while the Characters roam around you. These characters include Chip, Dale, Pluto, and Mickey. What a combination, and here at the Garden Grill, you will have an opportunity to see them 2-4 times on a typical day.

The Garden Grill is located at Disney's EPCOT Theme Park in the Land Pavilion on the entry floor above SOARIN. This Disney dining location is a unique dining experience. Not only the fact that this location is a Character Dining Location, and Not only that, it is a family-style all-you-can-eat venue, but because this Disney Restaurant rotates. Yes, it spins ever so slowly. Not so much that you will notice it during your dinner, but you can watch and see how the scenery changes.

This Disney Dining Location sits above and beside one of my favorite rides in EPCOT, Living With The Land. You will sit and dine while several of the iconic ride's scenes slowly pass you by. Intermittently, you will be interrupted by Chip, Dale, and Friends. Also, your service will be sure to keep your plates and drinks full.

This circular, rotating dining experience is quite popular and is an excellent location for you to enjoy Mickey in a Character Dining Location. In addition to this significant fact, the food here at The Garden Grill is flavorful, tasty, and plentiful. You can keep it coming until you are filled and then some.

This event all starts with a salad coarse that is crisp and green, covered in a vinaigrette. This salad is called the Harvest Inspired Salad. Again, you can request more of this fresh salad at any time during your meal. Another unique thought is that the vegetables grown in the Living With The Land GreenHouses are used at EPCOT Restaurants. You never know, you could be eating vegetables grown next door.

Next up, You move to the entrees. Here you will be provided with Turkey and Gravy, a flavorful stuffing, Grilled Beef with a Chimichurri Sauce for some extra heat, and Macaroni and Cheese. These are your main offerings. My only comment is while these three are tasty and fresh, I miss the days when you also got a fish, but that offering disappeared approximately 3 to 5 years back.

Otherwise, this diner offers is a great way to feed the family in a low-key character dining location. The beef is cooked approximately medium, so if you need it cooked further, you can request this from the kitchen. Again, you can ask more if your plates are running low.

Finally, Dessert. At this time, they are running a berry shortcake, but we've seen many other options over the years, such as blueberry and apple. Also, we've seen the dessert as shortcake, cobbler, and pie. These flavors will typically change based on the time of the year and the availability of the berries. Again, always feel free to ask your service for more.

Since this is a family-style dining option, the price includes the entire meal but not your beverages. You will pay an additional $5.29 for non-alcoholic drinks on top of the $55.00 adult dinner charge. Yes, this does price this treat out at almost $62.00 per person, so it is not cheap. However, you get quality service, great all-you-can-eat food, a unique rotating dining location, and characters.

While there are many other character dining venues in Walt Disney World, the benefit of The Garden Grill and Chip and Dale's Harvest is you will see the characters several times. Recurring character visits are possible due to the overall size of the restaurant. This location is not small, but it is also not a massive location like Be Our Guest or The Crystal Palace. The Garden Grill offers this unique dining experience that is provided only at EPCOT.

Now, you might think that EPCOT has many dining options that you and your family can experience. This fact is actual, Not counting World Showcase, EPCOT Offers Table Service Dining at the Coral Reef, sit-down table service, and the 4 Seasons Quick Serve, also in the Land Pavilion. Both offer great food and service. However, The Garden Grill is the only all-you-can-eat location.

Over the years, we have frequented the Garden Grill many times and always found the service and food consistently excellent. While some entrée options have changed, they have still tried to offer diversity on the menu to appeal to all members of your party.

One last item of discussion is allergies. If you have an allergy issue, you need to notify the chef immediately upon your arrival. This topic is one where Disney excels. Don't ever feel that you can't participate in the family dinner if you have an allergy. Almost all locations will have allergy-friendly options on the menu for you to consider. Many locations will even cook you an item to order. Allergies are taken very seriously, as is the health and welfare of the Disney Guests.

Now, if you are vegan or vegetarian, Disney also tries to offer Plant-Based items that will fill the need. Many Disney locations are offering tofu and or impossible beef to provide you with flavorful options in the Plant-Based arena. Just be aware that plant-based alternatives are illustrated on all Disney Menus with a plant looking insignia.

In the end, The Garden Grill is always a relaxing and filling Disney Character dining location. The food and service are still great, and the cost is similar to any buffet or character dining experience on Disney Property. You do pay for the privilege to dine with the characters. Also, be aware that the way many of these character interactions are being handled has changed due to the COVID outbreak and Disney's desire to keep you and the CastMembers safe.
